The U.S. Department of State (DOS), Bureau of Consular Affairs formulates and implements policy regarding immigration and consular services. The DOS operates U.S. consulates and embassies throughout the world. In addition to their role of protecting U.S. interests and assisting U.S. citizens living and traveling abroad, the consulates adjudicate and issue U.S. temporary and permanent visas to foreign nationals seeking entry to the United States.
